Do you love playing video games? If that’s the case, then you might have experienced gamer burnout. This can be a significant issue, especially if gaming is more than just a hobby for you. As a gaming content creator I am experiencing this right now and it can be hard to navigate when you have deadlines, embargos and schedules to meet. Let’s explore this in a little more detail.

What Is Gamer Burnout?

Burnout is best described as feeling incredibly tired after completing an activity constantly or repetitively. You can get a burnout from driving, playing sports, writing and yes – even playing video games. If you are suffering from gamer burnout then you will feel completely drained. You might even have headaches and it could put you off switching on the console or setting up the stream completely. Here are some of the things that you can do about this.

Check If It’s Burnout

While this could be a sign that you are burned out playing video games, there could be a range of other causes. For instance, you might be experiencing problems because of the winter solstice. If you check out this article: Winter Solstice Is Coming: What It Means, you’ll see that this particular event makes a lot of people feel a lot more tired than usual. It can also cause drops in energy, according to some polls. It might also be due to an issue in your diet. If you’re not getting enough minerals and vitamins in your diet, then you are going to feel a lot more drained than usual. Keep an eye on your Vitamin D levels.

What If It Is Burnout From Gaming?

If it is gamer burnout, then there are a few steps that you can take. The first step is to make sure that you are getting enough sleep. It could just be that you’re having far too many sleepless nights staying up late playing video games. This can easily be enough to make you feel completely drained and out of sorts. You might also want to try playing different games as well. If you’re using games that all have the same mechanics, then a change up can be exactly what you need. This is going to help you regroup and ensure that you don’t end up feeling stuck completing the same steps over and over again. It can provide the comfort break that you need. You do need to take breaks from gaming as well and these should be part of your professional schedule. Even streamers aren’t online 24/7 and when you do take a break, it’s important that you are doing something other than gaming. You need to instead get outside or maybe even hit the gym to get moving and get your blood pumping.

A break, a change of scenery and/or a shake up of your regular routine will all help.

As we approach 2021 it’s a great time to re-evaluate what we want in life, our goals and where we want to be by this time next year. We need to listen to ourselves on a deeper level and any kind of burnout is our bosies way of telling us we need to make a change. This way we can get back to enjoying our games and content creation (if that’s your thing) out of choice rather than habit.

I hope this helps you understand gamer burnout, what it is and how to handle it the right way. If you take the right steps here, then you’ll be able to guarantee that you don’t end up in a situation where you constantly feel exhausted when you’re playing games. This is particularly important if gaming is something that’s tied to your career rather than a hobby that you can drop and pick back up whenever you like.
