Jetting Off? Holiday Must-Haves For A Beach Break

It’s official. Summer holidays are back! While travelling might look a little different this year, more and more people are choosing to take a break in the coming weeks.

Please be aware that with this post I am not trying to encourage travel (I myself am still staying indoors as much as possible!) but I am aware that there are many people who prebooked their summer holidays and are unable to cancel so I want people to be able to embrace that and do so as safely as possible.

If you’ve decided to jet off in pursuit of sun, sea and sand, here are some essentials to add to your shopping list.

Face coverings

Face coverings may not be the most stylish accessory in your holiday wardrobe, but they are mandatory in some countries, so it’s best to take a supply with you. You’ll need a face covering to protect you and other passengers during your time at the airport and on your flight. Depending on where you are going, you might also need to wear a mask when you’re out and about when you reach your destination. Think of it as a stylish treat to yourself and find some fun and colourful ones to try out.

Sunglasses

Most of us know that we have to shield our skin from the sun, but have you thought about your eyes? Sunglasses can add serious style points to any beach outfit, but they’re also essential for protecting your eyes from potentially harmful UV rays. When you’re lying in the sun, or you’re out on an excursion, you don’t want to be squinting or struggling to see what’s in front of you because of the glare of the sun. With the right pair of shades, you can ensure you look the part and you can enjoy a range of activities. If you usually wear glasses, shop here for stylish prescription sunglasses. If you’re buying online, rather than going into a store, read the product details carefully and look for shades that offer enhanced UV protection. If you’re going to be doing any driving make sure they’re safe for that too!

Swimwear

Whether you’re heading to the coast, or you’re planning to spend your days lying around the pool basking in the sun, you’ll need to pack swimwear. There’s a huge range of styles available this summer, including bikini sets, mix and match tops and bottoms, swimsuits and tankinis. You can choose from an array of different colours, cuts and patterns and you can opt for styles to suit your itinerary. If you’re hitting a trendy bar or a beach club, you might want to opt for a glamorous swimsuit or a matching set. If you’re a sporty type, crop-tops and racerbacks may be more your thing. For the sunseekers out there who don’t want to risk tan lines, bandeau tops are ideal. If you’re not sure what styles and shapes suit you, it’s best to try a range of different options before you head off on holiday.

Cover-ups

When you’re lying out in the sun catching rays, you want to be able to throw on a shirt, a kaftan or a playsuit if you need to pop back to your room or it’s time to grab a quick bite to eat. Lightweight cover-ups are perfect for beach breaks. In a second, you can dress for a laidback lunch date or a drink at the pool bar. Look for natural materials and items you can add to your bikini or swimsuit to protect your modesty and conform with dress codes. Kaftans, cotton dresses, maxi skirts and sarongs are great examples.

Beach to bar makeup

If it’s hot outside, you don’t want to be spending hours getting ready to go for a sunset cocktail or carrying a huge makeup bag around with you. Simplicity is the key to holiday makeup looks. With a few carefully-selected products, you can jump from beach to bar in a matter of minutes. Add some spf, concealer, mascara and a lip balm to your bag, and you’re good to go.

Books

Sometimes, nothing beats enjoying 40 winks with the warm glow of the sun on your skin, but if you get bored of tanning, or you have a bit of time on your hands while you’re waiting for others to get ready in the evening, it’s brilliant to be able to get into a book. Many people love to read on holiday, and there’s a vast range of titles available from airport stores and online retailers. Choose from thrillers and crime novels, fiction and romance or go for an autobiography. If you don’t want to carry a load of heavy books in your bag, you could also consider investing in an e-reader or downloading an app to turn your phone into a book. I personally love using the kidle app on my iPhone, they even have free reads for prime members (magazines included!).

Are you counting down the days until you jet off to the beach? If a holiday is on the horizon, it’s a good idea to start your shopping now. Hopefully, this list of beach break must-haves will help to make packing a doddle. If it’s a holiday you’ve been trying to avoid, try to make the best of it. Memories can still be made and, with precaution and guidance, you can stay safe and still have a great time.
